Two Important Projects

We have been very busy around our house on two special projects that have a lot riding on them.

The first is actually my son's project. It's that time again. Yep, the Pinewood Derby is Saturday. His car is done, for the most part, and it's beautiful. I say "for the most part" because there are always last minute adjustments according to what the official scale has to say. It's also beautiful partly because he did a great job and partly because he choose to decorate it with a military theme again this year. This time, instead of camouflage, the car is all silver with the blue Air Force insignia painted on top. Hopefully, it will fly as fast as a fighter jet and will do well in the races. LOL!

The other project is what I have been calling my daughter's dummy-proof dress. It's not that she is a dummy. Nor does she attract dummies. LOL! No, it's to prevent me from becoming a dummy. LOL! I know that sounds crazy but let me explain.

There's a very long tradition in my family. Every grandmother or mother in my family has made--yes, sewn with her own hands--every baptismal gown, every First Communion dress and, with only one exception, almost every wedding dress ever worn in our family. Not only is there that tradition but they all did it with great skill. You see, my grandmother made my mother's wedding dress from a picture--no pattern at all. My mother made my wedding dress using parts of three different patterns.

Now, it is my turn to make my daughter's First Communion dress. And I just can't mess up! Eeek! So, I am using the cheapest fabric I could find to make a practice run at her dress. So, she'll have a blue "dummy-proof" dress soon and, God-willing, a pretty First Communion dress she won't be ashamed to wear in front of her class. I promise I'll post pictures when I get them done--not matter how they turn out. LOL!

Until next time, Happy Creative Time!

The projects sound fun. Good luck with your son winning the derby and you with sewing your daughters dummy dress, cannot wait to see the final project.

My mom made a First Communion Dress that my sister and I both wore and she cut up her wedding dress to make it. It was very special

I love that tradition. However, I had a friend force me into promising I'd never make a wedding dress for one of my daughters, because I was up too late too many nights sewing prom dresses one daughter designed. I have experienced the "combining 3 patterns"!
If you do get stuck, post it here and we can offer you tips, which you will be at liberty to disregard. :-)

Wow, Hand sewn? Even I don't take on such things (though I have big plans to make them less revealing prom/formal dresses in HS-10+ years from now). That is a neat tradition and I commend you for your efforts, I would love to see pics of that dress and all the others, I am curious to see how amazing your family's talents are.
