Pinellas Hope

Thank you so much for your warm wishes for our anniversary. We did have a nice week-end but it's not over yet. Woo Hoo! The kids have off of school tomorrow for parent-teacher conferences. We had ours on Friday and I'm pretty pleased with our kiddos. They are doing well in school and we're proud of them both.

We got up early Saturday and went to Pinellas Hope. It's a tent city of a different sort. Unlike Sheriff Joe's Tent City outside of Phoenix, this one truly offers hope. It is a safe place where the homeless can find shelter and a place to leave their things while they go off to work or school. We went with a group of people from our parish and our kids' school. We took them lunches, snacks and other donations.

Pinellas Hope offers such a great opportunity for the homeless that there is a waiting list to get in and anyone who does not obey by the rules must leave. It's a unique place that has been featured on Oprah and other national television programs. It also serves as a model for other communities who want to offer something similar.

The Diocese of St. Petersburg owns the land and operates the facility. They are trying to build another one closer to this side of town but it is facing opposition from the residents near where they want to set it up. I seriously have to wonder if those who are opposing it have even taken a moment to go visit Pinellas Hope. It would be such a shame if they cannot set up more of these.

Please take a moment to pray for the homeless and for those who are trying to make their lives a little better.

Happy Scrapping!

I will definitely say a prayer, it is such a shame to not want shelter built for homeless people as we sit on our warm houses. Definitely will be praying

WOW, thanks for sharing this information. I will keep them in my prayers and one has to wonder why the community does not want such a place in their area.
