Ash Wednesday & Brownies Too

Today is the one day of the year that I always seem to get a lot of weird looks. Not that that doesn't happen the rest of the year, but today it is particularly obvious.

You see, today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. It is the day where we go to Mass and get the burned ashes from last year's Palm Sunday rubbed on our foreheads. It's supposed to be in the shape of a cross but sometimes it just looks like a black blob on our foreheads.

Why do we do this? Well, there are many reasons but the biggest is that it is a sign of our faith, that we belong to Jesus. It is also an expression of our sorrow for our sins and, even more so, of our desire to follow Jesus.

Yet, when we are out and about, we get odd looks and some funny comments too. Most people will just give us the odd stare like they can't figure out why it's on our foreheads but aren't brave enough to say anything. Some people will say, "Um, do you know you have black stuff on your face?" Others gasp and ask "What happened to you? Are you okay?" Some even think we've been working on our car.

I know we're not done with the looks and comments just yet. Ilaria has Brownies tonight so I'm sure there will be another round of weird looks, stares and more questions too.

I've been hard at work on another freebie for you. It's just not quite ready yet. So, keep checking back here. You're sure to find one soon.

Happy Scrapping!
