Yes, we stopped at White Sands, New Mexico.  Fortunately it was the first thing in the morning and it was overcast too or the sands would have been too hot.

From there, we traveled further west to a state that is very familiar to us.  It's where we met, got married and where both our children were born.

While one would think our kiddos are too big for this, we just had to stop and feed the ostriches and other critters at one of those roadside petting zoos.  See:

Those ostriches are fortunate to live in the shadow of a famous peak.  It just happens to be the site of the westernmost battle of the American Civil War.  Two more hints--it is not in New Mexico and the name of the peak starts with a "P."
