Biztown, A Busy Place

Yesterday, I had the fantastic opportunity to go on a field trip with our son.  It was a lot of fun and a very busy day.  We went to our local Junior Achievement's Biztown.

For those of you who do not know what that is, Junior Achievement is a non-profit organization that hopes to educate and inspire our young people about business.  They go into schools and teach the basics of running a business, handling finances and such.

In some cities, they have Biztown.  This is a mock city where the kids run the town and every business in it.  I was assigned to keep an eye on the electric company and the five children assigned to it ran it.  There was a CEO (Chief Executive Officer) who was the boss, a CFO (Chief Financial Officer), a Customer Service Represtantive, a Utilities Engineer (who conducted energy inspections and such), and a Meter Reader.  The whole thing ran like a real electric company and the kids did it all by themselves.

And here is the ONE picture our son allowed me to take:

To get it, I had to promise to leave him alone the rest of the day.  LOL!

He was the CEO of The Tampa Tribune and had to put together and print a newspaper complete with real articles and ads written by the kids.

All the kids had a lot of fun and it was fascinating to watch them at work throughout the town.  I am sure they not only learned a lot but now have a better idea of what they want for their futures.

Until next time, Happy Creative Time!

How cool is this?!?!?!?!!!!!! Congrats to your little CEO! :D

I've never heard of Biztown so thank you for informing me. It sounds like a GREAT way for kids to learn about the REAL world! Great picture, BTW! :)

What an awesome idea. I so miss volunteering at the grade school. Now Presley is too big for me to be at the school and I think when Kate and Elayna goes I'll be too old LOL
