Packing It In

Has it really been just 3 days since I blogged last?  It seems like a lot longer than that.  We pack our days  really full and, sometimes, that means I lose track of time.

We had a fun but traumatic week-end.

Let's see.  The guys went camping and "shopping" for a Boy Scout troop for Bryce to join in March (when he "graduates" from Cub Scout to Boy Scout).  They were a bit cold but they had fun and it looks like they have found a troop that's agreeable to both Bryce and Dad.  They also have a second choice in mind and are going to go to a couple of meetings to check them out more fully.  So that was a good thing in our corner.

Then, Saturday, Ilaria and I went to a birthday party on a farm.  The party was for one of her classmates and I just have to share a little story with you.  Another boy (not the birthday boy) was trying to catch small chickens in their pen.  He saw something on the ground and picked it up.  He looked it and tried to get the chicken to eat it.  The chicken didn't want to have anything to do with eating his "prize" and walked away.  The boy took another look at it, shrugged his shoulders and dropped it.  I couldn't bring myself to tell him what he had picked up and I'm still not sure if he knew he was holding poo and trying to get a chicken to eat it.

After the party, Ilaria and I went south to spend some time with my friend from the first grade.  Yep, the one I've known for nearly 40 years.  It was fun.  We did a little shopping, went out for dinner and then went to check out an amazing display of Christmas lights.  It was beautiful and we girls had so much fun.

Then we came home to discover that Snowball, our hamster was dying.  Ilaria was devastated and couldn't stop crying.  We ended up burying Snowball on Sunday.  Helping Ilaria through this was one of the hardest experiences as a parent I have ever had.  I also spent all of Saturday night flipping and flopping and wondering if I had killed her.  LOL!  I thought that the new food I had given her might have done her in but I got online and found out that it was just fine.  We'll never know why Snowball died but we're guessing it was a heart attack.  Hamsters are only supposed to live 1 - 3 years.

And that is why the kiddos chose to get a gerbil.  They are supposed to live a bit longer and since they are active during the day, they are supposed to be more fun.

I'm hoping the rest of this week goes better than it started.  May yours be fantastic too!

Happy Creative Time!

The chicken story is hysterical, Ileana!

I am SO sorry to hear about Ilaria's little hamster! I hope the gerbil will get her mind off Snowball! :(

Sounds like you have had a full few days! I don't know how you do it all!

Have a great day! :)

Sorry to hear about Snowball. We've had 2 hamsters and neither lasted very long.

I'm sure a gerbil is a better idea as it will be active in the day and should live longer.
