We had the wonderful opportunity this past week-end to attend the Wing's Christmas program. Oops. I better back up here before you think we went to eat chicken wings at a Christmas party. LOL!
Air Force units are grouped together into Wings. Each Wing is lead by a single commander.
Well, the Wing Commander and his wife are very kind, very generous people. They put on this party for the 65 children whose parents RSVP'd that they would attend. They had craft projects, games, lunch and each child got not only a stocking full of goodies but a special visit from Santa who gave each child a really cool gift too. All of this was funded out of the Wing Commander's own money. Wow! What kindness and generosity!
Yet, the part of the day that made a special impact on us was Santa. Did you know Santa wears combat boots? I'm not kidding!
My kids are getting pretty savvy. Last week, my son told me he didn't think the Tooth Fairy was real because he lost a tooth once and didn't tell us. He put the tooth under his pillow and it was still there in the morning. Hmm. Tricky little guy, don't you think?
So, when this Santa came into the party, I knew my kids wouldn't be fooled in the least and, sure enough, they weren't. Here, see for yourself:
When they commented on the costume, though, I pointed out that this Santa was even more special than the real one. This Santa is willing to fight to make sure we get the opportunity, the freedom to celebrate Christmas.
Yes, indeed, I am proud that Santa wears combat boots. Aren't you?
Until next time, Happy Creative Time!

what a great story! I love that Santa is willing to fight for our Freedom! Thanks for sharing Ileana!
I am very proud that Santa wears combat boots also. I grew up in a military Family, and I have always known that Santa has an "in" with the military, why else does he get to ride around on the military Fire Trucks? Although I am now married with kids of my own, Santa will stillcome to visit on the Fire Truck, since my kids go to an Army daycare. :) I'll have to check if our Santa wears combat boots too. :)
That is fantastic! Santa should have at least tried for the black boots even though I know they aren't the current uniform. We are struggling with Santa and Tooth Fairy beliefs at our house as well...
How awesome this is. You gotta scrap it LOL It is such a sweet story. :) TFS
I am proud of Santa and all of the men and women who serve and whose families sacrifice for our freedom!!!
What a grand story, Ileana! I'm SO proud of our men and women in all branches of the military and especially proud of THIS Santa who wears combat boots!
Great story! Thanks for sharing. It gives me such a good feeling. I appreciate all the sacrifices by our military and their families. Holidays are especially touching.
