Never Forget

Several weeks ago, every news organization started interviewing and writing articles about people's perspectives of 9/11.  I read one about a boy who is turning 10 today, on the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our country.

Unfortunately, this article just did not sit right with me.  He stated that 9/11 "was no big deal to me."

What?!!!

I know this young man was too little to remember life before those terrorist attacks and he didn't know any of the people who died that day nor in the wars to follow.

My own children were 3 months old and 2 years old at the time of the attacks.  They do not have their own memories of the attacks because they were too little too.

Yet, my husband and I have done our best to raise them right because 9/11 was and still is a big deal.  It's a tricky balance--to teach them about that day and the war on terror without scaring them--but it's important.

All the people who died that day and all the troops (both US and our allies) who have made the ultimate sacrifice since then deserve that much.  So, as for me and my house, we will never forget.

I just don't know what to say about that 10 year old's comment other than he was too young...just born it seems, to remember.

I have NEVER forgotten that day! The visions are still etched in my mind and always will be. As we all heal from that day, it's still a day NEVER FORGOTTEN by us adults!

God help us! God Bless us! And many heartfelt thanks to all who were involved in the rescue attempts! Our hero's past and present are not forgotten, either!

Thanks for the file! Although I already have it, it's great that you offered it today, Ileana!

I agree. It is a fine balance trying to explain it to our children without scaring them to death. My own children were 7 and 2 at the time. i sheltered them from the initial aftermath of the media at the time as it was all too "raw" for them to handle. Yet they know and understand the meaning of the remembrance today. This is one wound that time can not heal.

Thanks for the file. It is a great file. As I already own it, I am sure it will be appreciated by many others today.

Thanks to all those who serve our wonderful nation!
