The Essay

Today's post is brought to you by our son, Bryce.  Nothing has been changed or edited. Nor did he have any help in writing it.

What the U.S. Flag means to me

To me, the American flag is our freedom, our right to live, our hope, our very lives, and our strength to move on.  The American flag is a symbol of our troops, our history and our independence.  Our Flag has gone through the wars, all the pride and strife, even been through the time when our country was being born.  This flag is not just woven cloth, behind the cloth is our story and our life.  We must respect our flag and treat it with love and compassion.  Our country is a great privilage [sic], not a right.  Our flag is strong, not weak.

Many people have died for us so we could be here.  We should be proud that our soldiers are so freely giving their lives.  Our flag symbolizes the greatest country in the world, America.

On the back of his paper, he also drew a picture of the American flag.

At the awards ceremony, he read his essay outloud (something that was a bit hard for him because he is on the shy side) and got a standing ovation.

We are so proud of him.
