Brighter Possibilities

For a couple of years now, my husband has dreamed of becoming a commander in the reserves. It had always seemed like a far off dream because, well, when you're in a medical unit, the command position usually goes to a doctor or nurse. My husband, while he's generally very smart when it comes to medical things (Yeah, I know, the HUGE exception is snake-bites! LOL!!!) he's neither a doctor nor a nurse. This meant the chances of him being considered for command were very slim.

So, when he was offered the chance to be the acting commander of his unit, he jumped at it. He was even told he could possibly be the actual commander when the interviewing process was all done. He was so excited about all the possibilities.

Then, he found out what being a commander was really like and, boy, did it start off with a bang. Problems and more problems; meetings and more meetings; and loads of extra work too! In less than a month, he had to fire three people. (That's no easy task in the US military.) In all, the other side of the desk was not as cool as he thought it would be.

And then, this week, the door to a much brighter possibility opened. It'll mean a longer commute to work for his Air Force duties but it's bound to be more fun and the possibilities for promotion are better in this job too. He won't have to supervise (or fire) anyone and he'll mainly be planning humanitarian missions. To have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of so many needy people . . . well, that is the sweetest part.

Until next time, Happy Creative Time!

Anna, God is certainly awesome! I kept telling Bryan to pray about it all and it made all the difference.

It always seems good to be the "boss", but with it comes huge responsibility and very few perks other than pay. The new position sounds 100% "happier". :O)
