Coined

I have PICTURES! Yay! Woo Hoo and all that! I can finally share the big announcement. Are you ready?

My husband got coined!!!

Now you're scratching your head, wondering what in the world I'm talking about, right? LOL!

Well, in the US military, every service person is expected to carry a coin in their pocket at all times. This coin must be a special, decorative coin not a penny, quarter, dime or nickel. I've even made a file about this tradition. See:

If a service member is caught without a coin when someone says "Coin call," then that person has to buy drinks for everyone.

So, just how does one obtain these coins? Well, some of them can be purchased but the best way to get one of the coins is to be awarded one.

Yep, they are given out as awards for special service, dedication, or simply, a job well done.

And, my husband received not just one, but two coins, hence, he was coined. Here they are:

One of them is from the CSEL (Command Senior Enlisted Leader who is the highest ranking enlisted person at CENTCOM) and the other is from . . . well, take a look at the picture and see if you recognize him:

Yes, that is General Petraeus!

Being coined by General Petraeus for excellence is quite an honor. I couldn't be more proud of my husband.

WOW, that is absolutely fabulous. Congrats to your dear hubby!!! Boy do I ever remember the "coin call" I still have a few coins in which I was "awarded" as well. This is super exciting and I understand why you needed to wait until you were given the pictures, makes it better.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
My hubby still carrys around coins for the just in case special moment(s). Those coins are really neat! :)
He has had people who has seen his coins ask if they can have one... answer: No, in order to receive a coin, you have to do something special or outstanding,in other words you have to earn it. The coins just aren't handed out to any & everyone. So KUDOS to your Hubby :)

I didn't realize that the US Military did this tradition as well. I work in a small town Squardon, and we have this tradition there as well. I'm telling you, that coin is ALWAYS in my pocket. It sits with my keys to the Squadron so I never forget it.
Congrats to your husband on his 2 amazing coins. They are beautiful!
