I Have Reason to Be Proud

Today, I have the best reason to be proud!

Today began with a really exciting day planned for my children at their school, Nativity Catholic School. The school has just recently been awarded a national award. See:

And today's field day at school was meant to celebrate that award. They had planned a parade and many other activities. Well, in spite of the drought we've been in, it rained and rained and rained even harder. So, they did what all good educators practice quite frequently; they punted. The whole day was re-planned and set up in the span of 15 minutes! Instead of a parade outside, they had an assembly in the social hall. That was followed by fun activities in the classrooms and an extra-early dismissal.

On the way home, I asked my kids what they thought the best part of the celebration was. One of them said the popcorn and the other said getting to go home early. I then told them what I thought was the absolutely best part of the whole thing.

You see, the assembly began as all activities begin in a Catholic school, with prayer. Then, they had a mini-parade or a procession--you know, with all the flags and banners and such. They had the American flag, the State of Florida flag, the Vatican's flag, the banner proclaiming the award and, at the head of the procession: the Cross. The Cross lead the way. It was followed by the American flag, the other flags and then the award banner.

That was the best part. Their priorities are in the right place and I couldn't be more proud.

Sounds like a wonderful day, in all respects (rain included). Thank you for sharing this lovely story.
