I had another super busy day today. I took the kids to school. I took the dog to the vet. I worked around the house. I picked the kids up from school and went to a meeting there. Rushed home after that to help Hubby with the "broken stuff inspection" (Moving company won't reimburse us for the stuff they broke without personally inspecting it first and writing a written report even though we provided them with photos and pages of documentation on what was broken and what it would cost to replace it.) Then, a quick dinner and back to school for all of us. Hubby and the kids went to the Boy Scout Pack Meeting. I went to the Safe Environment Training so I can volunteer around the school.
I've been through this before at our old school so I was expecting a boring evening but I am so glad I went. It was a great refresher on how to keep our children safe. There are sooo many things we take for granted or assume would be okay that, in today's world, just aren't anymore.
For instance, we will no longer let our kids go by themselves to the restroom in a public place. Our kids have also been reminded to make sure they tell anyone and everyone who asks them to go somewhere that they need their parents' permission first. Why? Because this not only dissuades a predator from taking your child; it lets them know your kid talks to you. Predators want kids who are quiet and don't talk to their parents.
The next time you're in a public place, look around you. It is very conservatively estimated that 1 out of every 4 women you see have been a victim of some sort of abuse. The numbers for males are not quite so high. Prevention is critical. Please do everything you can to protect those around you.
